THERAPY SERVICES BOWRAL

Therapy With Deep Roots in the Southern Highlands

Our Bowral clinic on Walker Street offers speech pathology and occupational therapy to people across the Southern Highlands, with telehealth for those who can’t make it in. It’s the region where Hanrahan Health began.

What You’ll Find at Our Bowral Clinic

Not every Hanrahan Health location offers every service, so here is what’s available in Bowral.

Speech Pathology

Our Bowral speech pathologists support people of all ages with communication or swallowing difficulties, from children learning to build sentences to adults rebuilding speech and language after a stroke or brain injury. We begin with a thorough assessment of speech, language, literacy, swallowing and feeding, oromotor skills, social skills and voice.

Occupational Therapy

Our Bowral occupational therapists help people take part in the everyday activities that matter to them, from dressing and self-care to handwriting, cooking, sensory processing and managing big emotions. We offer strategies, equipment and task modifications, and therapy can be one-to-one, in a small group, or through a home or school program.

Telehealth and Key Worker Support

If getting to Walker Street is difficult, telehealth lets you meet a speech pathologist, occupational therapist or key worker by video or phone. You’ll need an internet connection and a computer, tablet or smartphone, and we can post therapy packs to your home to support sessions. Key Worker support for children under nine is available through our telehealth service.

Local Roots, Therapy Wherever It Works Best

Hanrahan Health began in the Southern Highlands as Southern Highlands Speech Pathology, and our Bowral clinic sits at the same Walker Street address where the practice opened in 2014. We’ve since grown into a multidisciplinary team with clinics in Goulburn, Campbelltown and Brisbane, but the Southern Highlands is where it all started.

Therapy happens wherever it works best. Speech pathology can take place in the clinic, at school, at home or out in the community, and occupational therapy in the clinic, at home, or at school or preschool. To find out which areas around Bowral our therapists currently visit, call our admin team.

What Happens at Your First Appointment

Whichever service you need, your first visit starts with listening. We want to understand your goals before we recommend anything.

  1. Make Contact

Send a referral through our online form, or call our Bowral clinic on (02) 4862 5063. Our admin team will talk you through the next steps and how your funding works.

  2. Getting the Full Picture

Speech pathology assessments cover speech, language, literacy, swallowing and feeding, oromotor skills, social skills and voice. Allow up to 1.5 hours, or up to 2.5 hours for school-aged clients, when we may split it across two sessions. Afterwards you receive a written report to share with your doctor, teacher or other professionals. Occupational therapy assessments can take place in the clinic, at home, or at school or preschool.

  3. A Plan That Fits

Together with you, your family and others involved in your care, we set goals and begin therapy. Speech pathology sessions run for 45 or 60 minutes, and occupational therapy can be one-to-one or in a small group. You’ll take home a program to keep progress going between visits.
